Vaasan Voima’s excellent audit results continued on 2–3 March, when an external audit of the power plant was carried out at Vaskiluoto. This year, the focus area of the external audit was “Continuous improvement of environmental management and energy efficiency”, for which Vaasan Voima received a score of 4/5. The audit was conducted by DNV.
– It is great to see that Vaasan Voima’s determined efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and to develop new production solutions once again received recognition in the form of an excellent audit result. In addition to our investments, we have paid close attention to our environment and ensured that guidelines and practices related to occupational safety are up to date, says Janne Österback, Managing Director of Vaasan Voima.
Several positive observations were noted within the audited focus area. These included, for example, a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions through the use of electric boilers, continued development of the thermal energy storage over the year, the assessment of alternative renewable fuels, and the expansion of risk assessments to include factors related to climate change.
– Special thanks for the audit result are due to our own power plant personnel. Developing our operations towards lower emissions and higher efficiency would not be possible without a committed and highly professional workforce, which plays a key role in enabling the ongoing energy transition, Österback emphasizes.
The audit conducted in March was a recertification audit of the power plant’s ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system and also included a review of the energy efficiency management system (ETJ+). The certification achieved through the audit is valid until 30 May 2029.
