Vaasan Voima achieved an excellent result in the external audit conducted in late March. Vaasan Voima received a perfect score of 5/5 in the external audit performed by DNV. This was a periodic audit of the power plant’s ISO 14001:2015 management system, and it also included a review of the energy efficiency system (ETJ+).
The focus area of the audit was ‘Continuous Improvement of Energy Efficiency’. The audit report recorded numerous positive observations. Among the positive observations were the extensive planning work done to improve energy efficiency, significant fuel savings achieved with electric boilers, and significantly improved energy efficiency in production with the help of the heat storage. No deviations were recorded in the audit, and only five observations were noted.
– Particularly pleasing in the audit report were the points highlighting Vaasan Voima’s investments in the Vaskiluoto thermal energy storage and electric boilers, which have significantly increased our emission-free production. The results confirm that the focus of our investments has been correct. The energy efficiency of our production will further improve thanks to the expansion of the total capacity of the thermal energy storage, which will be completed at the end of the year, says Vaasan Voima’s Managing Director Janne Österback.
The report also highlighted positive observations outside the focus area, such as significant emission reductions achieved with electric boilers, successful management of chemicals, documentation and risk assessment, and the number of training sessions organized for the staff. Österback notes that the observations show that the concrete investments in everyday work at the power plant have been in the right direction, in addition to the development of production.

The environment of the energy sector is constantly changing, which is also reflected in Vaasan Voima’s investments in new emission-free energy production solutions.
