A serious accident occurred last Thursday, July 17, at Vaasan Voima’s power plant in Vaasa, resulting in the death of a worker representing Vaasan Voima’s contractor company. The accident took place at a construction site related to the expansion of the heat storage facility.
“We are saddened to report that a worker belonging to one of our contractors has died in a workplace accident on Thursday morning at Vaasan Voima’s power plant. Our thoughts are now especially with the family and loved ones of the deceased,” says Janne Österback, Managing Director of Vaasan Voima.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to determine the sequence of events and the causes that led to the accident.
Work at the construction site was suspended on Thursday for the remainder of the day. Vaasan Voima has arranged crisis support and assistance for its employees and for the colleagues of the deceased worker, in cooperation with occupational health services, following the accident that has deeply affected the entire work community.
