Vaasan Voima produces electricity and district heating in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. The district heating covers more than 60% of the demand in Vaasa.
Vaasan Voima’s goal is to use new sources of electricity production to connect the energy needs of different industries and it will do this by developing solutions based on new electricity, for example, in heat generation. Electric boilers are one important component of the clean heat production system of the future.
Currently, Vaasan Voima has one electric boiler. However, in the fall of 2022, an investment decision was made for two new boilers.
In 2020, a large thermal energy storage (TES) facility with 100 MW of charge and discharge capacity was put into operation in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. It will diversify the region’s thermal energy generation both now and in the future.
In the fall of 2022, Vaasan Voima decided to invest in the expansion of the thermal energy storage.
